Our December General Meeting features a talk by the Arizona Attorney General's Office on Internet Safety for Parents. With our kids online more than ever and the possibility of new devices this holiday season, this is a must see! As always, our General Meeting will include a Q&A with Superintendent Menzel and offer an opportunity for SPC Representatives to share highlights from their school communities. RSVP for the meeting HERE and submit questions for Dr. Menzel HERE.
SPC Committees hosted several special events over the past month.
Check out these resources and videos:
The Equity Committee held a 3-part series on Courageous Conversations around race. Suggested readings and media for the workshop are available HERE.
They also hosted a talk from GLSN on How to Support LQTBQ+ Students and Families, offering THIS toolkit.
The Outreach Committee hosted a presentation from Raising Special Kids, explaining 504 Plans. Similar virtual trainings are offered regularly. Visit their website for information.
The Social Responsibility Committee, in conjunction with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and SUSD’s Director of Support Services, hosted a special presentation on How Parents Can Understand and Prevent Bullying. The presentation provided information on the different types of bullying, preventative measures parents can take and the importance of helping our children become resilient to criticism. View the presentation HERE.
A message from the Social Responsibility Committee
Our committee is continuing to work with district leadership on identifying best practices in reducing and preventing bullying and harassment in our schools and will be providing a fact sheet for parents on the steps to take if you believe your child is being bullied.
Thank you for being part of the SUSD community! For comments or questions, reach out to SPC President Emmie Cardella at firstname.lastname@example.org.
